ships will sail

December 01, 2009

i cannot stop listening to this 7inch, given to me by ulrich snchauss.  the title of this blog is the title of his song, backed with pia fraus', "mute the bird". i love this 7inch and the beautifully, haunting "ships will sail" gets stuck in my head over and over.

i will be posting a new podcast soon and will include this song.  took me just over a year, but i finally put another playlist together.

carlos and i have started recording new songs (all in the golden afternoon) and we're hoping our 12" will be out soon (full length).

we got back from overseas two weeks ago and i'm still missing the adventure of each day.  today, in austin, it's a gloomy grey and it's raining.  i don't mind.  it reminds me of arriving in berlin 6 weeks ago.  i lit the house with candles and am making carlos and i a habanero hubbard squash soup, with stuffed peppers, and sauteed brussel sprouts.  it's all local or from our garden, including the wine (from fredericksburg).

audio stream: no love - the tunnels

i could not sleep last night.  actually, the last few nights i've seen the hours of 5am and 6am pass.  last night i decided to use that time to mix a song for a band my husband and i are in called the tunnels. i play bass and carlos play drums. on this song we are also playing tambourine, he is playing the keys, and i'm singing back up vocals. we really enjoy making music with chris, aaron, and stephanie!

we've got a show coming up on saturday, january 31st at beerland in austin, texas.

i feel whack on MethylPREDNISolone crack

audio stream: 30th and sanchez by all in the golden afternoon

so, i've got some sort of issue with my neck.  thought it was carpel tunnel, but turns out it's worse.  i have been referred to a spine clinic.  first though, the bone and joint specialist gave me a round of the above mentioned substance.  a 6 day course of treatment that he said would help me at least get to the holidays.  he was a grouchy old man that performed many "tests" on me to try and make a diagnosis.  since he couldn't give me one, he sent me off with drugs (aka speed) and referred me to a colleague. i feel whack.

been listening mostly to the newly mastered all in golden afternoon full length and i'm really excited about the way it turned out.  its title will be magic lighthouse on the infinite sea. it comes in at 32 minutes and that includes one 8 minute opus to one of my favorite cities, featuring the lovely yvonne lambert from octopus project on theremin.  i have shared said "opus" in this blog.  most of the rest of the songs are between 2 and 4 minutes in length.  i just got lost in this one when writing it.

i've also been listening to the upsetters during this stressful steroid time.  i find it always somehow puts me in a good mood or makes things a bit lighter.

atlas sound

November 22, 2008

last sxsw i was drawn in by a showcase featuring white rainbow and atlas sound.  i enjoyed the evening very much and bought an atlas sound pink 7inch with handsewn sleeve.  it features a cover of "i'll be your mirror" backed with "unicorn rainbow odyssey" by mark sultan.  i regret to say that i never listened to it.  i do that during sxsw occasionally because i save up to buy merch from the bands i enjoy, but sometimes don't get around to listening to them until much later.  now that i've got the atlas sound album in my player, i'm dancing around to it and singing along even though i don't know the words.  dreamy.  beautifully composed and refreshing.  i am inspired.  and looking forward to listening to the 7inch.

bonus!  i was just going through my iphoto library and i found footage of atlas sound from this show...playing the very song i later fell in love with...recent bedroom.
